Block Front Shell Carved Chest of Drawers

One of the most outstanding examples of block-front chests, the Connecticut Chest of Drawers features multiple noteworthy details: fluted pilasters, dentils at the top and the base, hand-carved, raised and recessed shells and impressive ogee-bracket feet.

Chinese influence is suggested by the hand carved, ogee-bracket feet with fillet molding. The fillet molding also outlines the three drawer fronts. The original of this chest was made in Connecticut circa 1760 and is on display in the Essex Room of the Winterthur Museum. Limited Stock
